Hillside Martial Arts Center.2008 Calendar of Events
Class Descriptions:Martial Arts (M/A) All M/A classes begin with warm-up exercises and stretching followed by the 17 Basic Movements and 6 Basic Kicks. After a short break and time permitting, forms, 1-steps, and self defense may be practiced before the above listed material is covered. When REVIEW is listed as the focus, additional time is devoted to the above material at the instructors discretion. NAK BOP Falling practice for both the beginner and advanced student. This section is a necessity for all students for their own safety and the safety of others. It serves as a building block for more advanced techniques such as Too Ki Sool. DAE RYON: Sparring, typically of the no/light contact variety depending on the level of the student. Combinations are also introduced to students to aid in development of their fighting sense and timing. FREESTYLE HOSHIN SOOL: Self defense practice during which students are free to explore situations without the rigid structure of regular Hoshin Sool practice. Typically students are free to experiment and instructors offer advice and guidance. COMBATIVE CIRCUIT: Circuit training consisting of 3-6 stations with self defense orientation. Topics may include defense against an unarmed attacker or an attacker armed with such weapons as a knife, gun, club, etc. MITT WORK: Focus mitts (normally associated with boxing) are used as targets for punches and kicks. This helps students improve their technique and accuracy. It also has the potential to be a vigorous workout. REDIRECT DRILL: Focus is on hinging and camming via an aggressive attacker. Large kicking shields are also used to simulate attackers without risk of injury to the attacker or defender. DT, DT Knife, etc:
Techniques taught in the DT courses are introduced
to the class. Most common are gun and knife defenses. A
